Peter Warlock

Peter Warlock (1894 - 1930) was an English classical composer. Warlock was his pseudonym and his real name was Philip Arnold Heseltine. He was particularly interested in the occult and in folk music.

His Capriol Suite is the only composition of his that I know and the 5th movement, Pieds-en-l'air, is the one I want to be played at my funeral.

Warlock dedicated the suite to Breton composer Paul Ladmirault and it is based on tunes in Thoinot Arbeau's Orchésographie, a manual of Renaissance dances..

The track below is performed by the Academy of St.Martin-in-the-Fields conducted by Neville Marriner and if you want to hear the full suite you can find it here played by the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra..
