George Frederick Handel (1685 - 1759) was a German classocal composer who became a British citizen in 1727.
He is perhaps most famous for his oratorio The Messiah which includes the popular Hallelujah Chorus but his Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks also remain among his most popular works.
I have chosen the menuetto from the latter piece as it reminds me of happy times at the Edinburgh Festival Fireworks display from the castle ramparts where the Scottish Chamber Orchestra play it throughout the display in time with the fireworks.
The track below is by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra conducted by André Previn forever to be known by Eric Morcombe as Mr Preview!!
Handel was another victim of the so called eye surgeon John Taylor who manage to blind him as he did J S Bach.
