Georges Bizet (1838 - 1875) was a French classical composer who is best known for his opera Carmen. I have chosen a piece from one of his earlier compositions L'Arlésienne suite No.2 played by the Montréal Symphony on the track below. I could not leave off Carmen from my favourite music so here is a link to the complete opera from La Scala in Milan with Daniel Barenboim conducting.
Strangly Carmen was not liked by the French musical establishment and this depressed Bizet who was suffereng ill health at the time. He died from a heart atteck shortly after completing Carmen at the tender age of 36.
