George Lane
Great great Grandad Lane was born in Notgrove, Oxfordshire and married Sarah Rainbow. They had five children that I can trace including my great grandmother Pratley born in 1855 or 6. In the 1871 census the details are wrongly recorded but do list a further 3 children. His ancestors have been traced as follows:
Husband | Spouse |
George Lane: B 1824 | Sarah Rainbow: B 1824 in Sutton Warwickshire. D ? |
John Lane: B 1798 in Icomb, Glos. D ? | Sarah Day: B 1799 ln Alderton, Glos. D ? |
William Lane: ? D ? | Lady Elizabeth Taylor: B ? D ? |
Sarah Day's ancestors have also been traced:
Husband | Spouse |
John Lane: B 1798 in Icomb, Glos. D ? | Sarah Day: B 1799 ln Alderton, Glos. D ? |
Anthony Day: B 1774 in Alderton D ? | Betty Green: B ? D ? |
Anthony Day: B ? D ? | Margaret Drinkwater: B 1740 in Alderton D ?
Married in 1760. |

The 1871 census is suspect as it lists his wife as Eleanor aged 38 born in Ascott, Oxfordshire? There was only one Mary listed in 1861 but she is not recorded as Mary Eleanor but Mary Ruth? However we know that Mary married Charles Pratley in 1878 so it was unlikely she would have left home at the tender age of 16. I assume that the Eleanor recorded was not his wife but his daughter an his wifes details were incorrectly recorded or she was deceased? I have found a Sarah Lane the right age who died in 1866 in Chipping Norton.
