Saloon
With a surface area of nearly 18 square metres the saloon is fully carpeted and has a Norwegian wood burning stove in addition to the central heating double radiator which extends along one side for 2.4 metres. Included in the sale are two three seater leather sofas, a large glass topped coffee table, cupboards, bookcases and table lamps. There are 24v and 220v lighting and sockets provided in the saloon and throughout the ship. There are three double glazed windows down each side and a large opening skylight. A corridor leads off the other corner of the saloon through a glass door at the end of which is a short flight of steps up to the wheelhouse.
Main Bedroom
This leads off one corner of the saloon and is fully carpeted. It has six opening portholes and a central heating radiator. The double bed measures 2.0m x 2.2m and there are curtained storage shelves extending across the width of the room.
Bathroom/Laundry
Halfway along the corridor from the saloon a door leads into the bathroom where there is a full size shower, Rheinstrom electric toilet and a sink unit with drawers and cupboards. A large wardrobe is along the opposite end of the room and there is also a washing machine and separate clothes drier. The bathroom has a surface area of just over 8 square metres and has a large opening skylight. A door to the engine room leads off the forward bulkhead.
Wheelhouse/Galley
This is the most important part of the ship and it is where you will spend most of your time apart from very cold winter days. It is a roomy light area measuring 16 square metres. There are large windows all round, double glazed on each side. The helmsman's chair is an impressive and very comfortable seat. The instrument/control panel is the most comprehensive you will ever find in a barge of this type. Apart from the large steering wheel and Vetus single lever engine/reverse gearbox controls there are switches for all ships services such as lights, windscreen wiper, blue board, engine room extractor fans and domestic water etc. Gauges display all tank levels, propulsion and generator engines pressures and temperatures plus rudder indicator. Voltmeters indicate battery state or the presence of a 220v supply either from ashore or from on board generators and ammeters indicate battery charge current.
There is a depth sounder, a GPS navigator and an intercom to communicate with the person on the focsle handling the ropes. You can start up all engines from here and the hydraulic pump for the Hiab crane. Two VHF radios complete the kit list, one fixed and one ATIS portable.
The galley runs down one side of the wheelhouse and consists of a full size domestic gas cooker with extractor hood, stainless steel sink unit, worktop and fridge with separate freezer compartment which switches automatically to gas, 220v or 12v whichever is available. When we were looking for a barge to buy, this was a feature we disliked, however, once we experienced prolonged summer cruising we realised the advantage of the ships cook being able to appreciate the passing countryside when under way in addition to the helmsman. Even at home, most people spend their days in the kitchen/diner and we now see this arrangement as an advantage!
Guest bedroom
This would have been the original skippers cabin when Harmonie traded as a commercial vessel. It now has two full size single bunks, two windows, three opening portholes and a modern opening rooflight. It would be possible to install an en-suite shower and toilet at the expense of removing the built-in wardrobe and storage cupboard which guests do not really need. On the other hand if you make it too comfortable they might outstay their welcome!! A Dometic portable toilet is provided.
Household equipment In addition to the items mentioned above, included in the sale will be a full set of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans, electric toaster, various glasses, mattresses and four single duvets, ironing board, electric steam iron, lamps and light fittings, binoculars and various electric extension leads. The ship would therefore be ready to cruise with only bed linen, personal effects and treasured possessions required to be brought aboard.
